Branding + UX Writing Andre was an unknown candidate running in a ward tightly held by a Chicago Machine incumbent—a seat held for 35 years. He needed more than a logo and a website. He needed a strong brand upon which he could hang his vision of a better future. As the son of Guatemalan immigrants, Andre's story was the heart of his campaign. His timing in stepping up to do something positive in his community was paramount, considering the groundswell of progressive activism surging through local and national politics. Partnering with local design shop, Twentytwo, I concepted: “Our Ward, Our Moment”. The final logo design was an iteration of our concept, leaning heavily upon Andre's long-time love of comic superheroes. In a sea of same 'ole Chicago-flag colors and stars, Andre's logo stood out: a Captain America-esque shield upon a bold teal. We then created a site prototype (UX design + content) and worked with an outside developer to implement database + fundraising functionality. For the first time EVER, Andre forced the "Chicago Machine" incumbent into a run-off and he WON. andrefor40th.com
